Bulletin #20

When do you need "captive" vibration isolators?

Captive isolation mounts are designed to restrain equipment installed on mobile applications. Examples are rental generator fleets, marine vessels and on-road utility vehicles. Their "captive" design insures that there is a metal bonding between the equipment being isolated and the base of the equipment. Non-captive mounts are typically neoprene (or rubber) and can rupture under radial or axial loading. This can cause equipment to become loose or unstable. The proper specification of captive mounts for mobile applications is critical in safeguarding against equipment damage.   Truly captive mounts are available in various designs and capacity ratings.   Their selection should take into consideration the mechanical characteristics of the equipment being isolated and the operating environment.

Davidson Sales Company represents Korfund Dynamics Co., a leading manufacturer of noise and vibration controls.  For more information on Korfund's captive isolation products, please contact us or visit www.vmc-kdc.com.  We can assist you with the gathering of information to arrive at a proper product selection.
